Through the loans of exceptional pieces, the retrospective at the Petit Palais attempted to restore Jordaens to its status of a glory of 17th century Flemish painting. An evocative scenography is based on the qualities of the painter's work which may seem contradictory: an obvious monumentality, in the formats and in the compositions, but also a great humanity in the treatment of the represented subjects.
